Mab Gwalia Portraits

I was recently commissioned by the nice folks at Working Word to shoot portraits for Mab Gwalia, a new initiative created by Michael Sheen to support projects and people across Wales.

The images are used on the Mab Gwalia website and dropped seamlessly into the project videos for Benefits Advice Shop and Brighter Futures, both located in Rhyl, North Wales.

When the brief came through from Working Word that they were keeping to medium format film for this project, I was keen to get involved. The unique qualities of film convey a sense of authenticity and depth which seems a big part of the Mab Gwalia story. Just one little problem, “We want colour and a landscape format”.

I’m a stickler for black and white in a portrait format but how could I turn this down? Anyone specifying film photography has a clear vision for their project. Besides, I can send the film off to be developed and even better, the RZ has a rotating back, let’s rock!
